Lee Westwood who is ranked third in the World rankings is now in the United States of America for the prestigious Accenture Match Play Championship.

He has only managed to reach the second round of the tournament so far which he did in the years 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2005 and 2002.

Lee Westwood had to play Nick Colsaerts in the very first round of the tournament and is in the Sam Snead group.

The game turned out to be well for Lee Westwood in the start as he took the lead in the match form the second hole itself. He was very nicely three up by the time the match progressed to the eighth hole but Nick Colsaerts is not an easy man to give up and he cut down the lead to one up by the tenth round. Lee Westwood won the 12th and the 13th holes but Closaerts made up in the 15th. At the 17th hole, the hole was conceded with Lee Westwood winning the match three up and a one to play.

Lee Westwood commented saying that he was very happy with his performance for he didn’t give a single hole away and neither did he make a bogey. He made six beautiful birdies and hence was happy with the result. He admitted that Nick Colsaerts was not a very tough opponent and was a tough competitor.

Lee Westwood now faces Robert Karlsson for the second round matches which he has described as another tough match. He said that there are no easy matches or opponents in this tournament and one has to keep playing tougher opponents in order to qualify for the next rounds. It remains to be seen how far he can make it in this tournament having previously failed to win the title.
